The FPC Music Ministry is an integral part of worship at the First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville. Under the direction of Debbie Davis, Director of Music Ministries, the various choral and instrumental ensembles exist to praise and magnify the name of God and to lead the congregation in praise and worship of God. Our desire is to equip our church for wholeheartedly singing praises unto the Lord as an expression of unity.

The Music Ministry adheres to the mission statement set forth by the church and aims to present the highest level of excellence in music that is attainable. This commitment to excellence is not limited to musical skill and talent, but is necessary to develop Christ-like maturity for both Church and world ministry. Every member of the FPC Music Ministry strives to achieve musical excellence through the same kind of love, compassion, faithfulness, strength, truthfulness, self-control, patience, and motivation for service displayed by Jesus Christ.

The driving force behind our ministry is the Word of God. It not only defines who God is but how we are to approach the true God who is worthy of our praise. We incorporate hymns from the Celebration Hymnal; modernized hymns and psalms from groups such as Getty Music, Sovereign Grace Music, and Passion; as well as a wide variety of God-centered praise and worship songs. We utilize both the traditional and contemporary forms of worship.

CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir is the primary ensemble within the music ministry. This ensemble sings year round for the 11:00am Worship Services as well as for other special services throughout the year. While formal training is not required to be a part of this adult ensemble, basic pitch matching skills and a heart for worshipping the Lord are essential. The choir performs traditional, contemporary and classical music. Rehearsal is on Wednesday Evenings at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary

YOUTH CHOIR
The FPC Youth Choir is open to all youth in elementary and middle grades. Our goal is to equip our youth with not only the musical tools needed for success but with the spiritual tools that will aid them in their daily lives. This group meets during the months of August through May on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:00pm in the Educational Building (upstairs). As of January 2018, this ensemble is on sebbatical.

ORCHESTRA
The FPC Orchestra is a volunteer ensemble whose desire is to glorify the Lord through instrumental music. This ensemble plays year round for the 11:00am Worship Service. Any musician with a heart for making beautiful music and bringing glory to God is invited to play. We welcome new players to more advanced players, though an audition is required. We do ask that musicians be able to provide, repair/maintain, and competently play their own instruments, meaning, be able to play the associated notes with correct pitch and tuning. The orchestra rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:15am in the Sanctuary. To be in the orchestra, please contact Debbie.

HANDBELL CHOIR
FPC Weaverville has beautiful four octave set of Schulmerich Bells. We rehearse September through May, playing in the 11:00am Worship Service as well as for other special events. This ensemble rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm. As of January 2018, this ensemble is on sebbatical.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM
The FPC Music Ministry presents an annual Christmas Program for the entire Weaverville Community on the third Sunday of December. All of our ensembles are a part of this special program as well as other guest musicians from Western NC. It is a time of rejoicing and celebrating the birth of the Christ Child. Save the date for our next Christmas Program: December 2023.
